Silver Spring, MD – After five years of being held at Patterson Park in Baltimore City, the ninth annual African festival, FestAfrica 2011, will be held at a new location, the Silver Spring Civic Center, Veterans Plaza in downtown Silver Spring, Md., Aug. 13-14, 1 – 8 p.m. both days.  Admission is free. 
 
The two-day celebration will welcome 7,000 or more attendees, featuring traditional African music and dance performances, fashion shows, arts & crafts, vendors, African cuisine, games, face painting, story telling, and a health fair. FestAfrica is a statewide African festival with support from the Maryland State Arts Council and Montgomery County government.
 
The theme for the festival is “Serving & Touring Africa,” promoting tourism and community service on the continent.  With a tourism fair, attendees will have the opportunity to learn about attraction sites, travel and tourism options in various African countries. The festival will also promote community service opportunities by highlighting non-profit organizations doing important work in Africa.
