The Ohio home of the late singer Gerald Levert is in ruins following an April 17 fire, with firefighters calling the home a total loss.
According to reports, Levert bought the house in April 1994, and lived there until his death of a heart attack in November 2006 at age 40. The house has been vacant since his death. Levert was part of the R&B trio LeVert and the son of singer Eddie Levert of the 1970s soul group The OโJays.
The Newbury , Ohio Township fire department and the state Fire Marshalโs office are investigating the fire. According to The Willoughby, Ohio News-Herald, the house was in fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived at around 11p.m. Firefighters didnโt leave the house until 6 a.m. the next day.?
The Geauga County Sheriffโs Office appraised the home and its 8.93 acres of land at $510,000, while the countyโs auditors list the property and improvements at a market valuation of $658,900, according to the News-Herald. The three mothers of Levertโs children are seeking a portion of those assets.
