Councilwoman Welch held many leadership positions, including chair of Urban Affairs and Aging. She also served on numerous committees.

“Hers’ was a life well lived,” said granddaughter, Tiffany Welch.  “We will confirm the arrangements for her service next week.  We assume that the celebration of her homegoing will take place at her home church, St. Edwards.”

Welch told the AFRO that the family is “working with March Funeral Home and their Life Tribute Center” on arrangements, adding that the family “will notify the public when the arrangements are complete.”
