Junior guard D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera scored a team-high 25 points to help push the No. 4 seed Georgetown Hoyas to a 84-74 win over the No. 13 seed Eastern Washington in the round of 64 of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament on March 19 in Houston.

The Hoyas advanced to face No. 5 seed Utah in the South Region quarterfinals on March 21.

Georgetown made a habit in recent years of letting lesser seed teams upset them in the early rounds of the NCAA Tournament—the Hoyas hadn’t made it out of the round of 64 since 2012. But that changed thanks to outstanding play from Smith-Rivera and the Hoyas bench. Georgetown’s reserve players scored a total of 45 points;  every player who subbed in for the Hoyas scored at least eight points.

Smith-Rivera led the way with 25 points and eight rebounds. Junior guard Tyler Harvey led Eastern Washington with 27 points.

Eastern Washington ended its season with a 26-10 overall record. Georgetown (23-10) will have its hands full with Utah (26-8), who defeated Stephen F. Austin in the round of 64.
