On October 17, 2015, GLADYS JEANETTE GASKIN REED passed away suddenly. She was the beloved wife of the late Crafton C. Reed Jr. and devoted mother to Crafton C. Reed III and Orlo G. Reed.

She was born on January 15, 1921, and reared in Smethport, Pennsylvania. In 1942 she was graduated from Morgan State College and began teaching in the Baltimore City Public Schools. She taught for 33 years and was Head of the Home Economics Department at Dunbar High School from 1972 until retirement in 1975. During retirement she led a very active social life and belonged to numerous organizations including The DuBois Circle, Needles and Pins, Pleasant View Civic Association, and Day Timers.

This year she achieved Diamond Soror status in the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated for her 75 years of membership. Other hobbies were needlecraft, reading, and travelling.

She was preceded in death by her beloved sisters Naomi Gaskin Brooks and Emma Gaskin Bright. She is survived by the children of Naomi Brooks, neices Dr. Rehema Gray and Dr. Judith Smith, nephews Dr. Elwood Brooks and Maxwell Brooks Jr., great-neice Jennifer Smith, great-nephews Shawn Brooks and James Smith Jr., grandchildren, and great-grandchildren of her late sister.

Other surviving relatives are her sister- in-law, Shirley Reed, neices Vicki Reed and Toni Hackett, nephews George Reed and Ernest Reed, great-neices Gina Curry and Julie Hackett, great-nephews Darren Hackett, Daniel Reed and Adam Reed as well as many other special family members and friends.

Memorial services will be held at 12:00 noon on October 31, 2015, at Wylie Funeral Home, 9200 Liberty Road, Randallstown, MD followed by the interment at Arbutus Memorial Park, 1101 Sulphur Spring Road, Baltimore MD 21227.
