GOVERNING FOR RESULTS’ SERIES TO FOCUS ON MARYLAND’S ENERGY CONSERVATION AND REDUCTION MEASURES

ANNAPOLIS, MD (September 14, 2014) — Governor Martin O’Malley will join representatives from Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE), Opower, and a host of local organizations, elected officials and community stakeholders to highlight energy conservation through the EmPOWER Maryland program. The event will take place MONDAY, September 15, 2014, at 9:15 a.m. on the promenade at the Living Classroom’s Frederick Douglass – Isaac Myers Maritime Park in Baltimore City .

This event continues the ‘Governing for Results’ series, highlighting progress on the State’s efforts to achieve the Administration’s 16 strategic goals. BGE’s Smart Energy Savers Program®, which is a broad portfolio of energy efficiency programs in support of EmPOWER Maryland, as well as the BGE Smart Energy Rewards Program® with Energy Savings Day notifications provided by BGE and supported byOpower is an example of innovative strategies that will help Maryland continue to meet its aggressive energy and greenhouse gas reduction goals. The partnership will leverage cloud-based software to transform the way utilities help customers save money and conserve energy.

The EmPOWER Maryland program encourages the utility industry to use new technologies, data analytics and different pricing mechanisms, so that Maryland continues to lead the nation in efficient and customer-centered techniques to reduce energy consumption.
