Governor Larry Hogan, Lt. Governor Boyd Rutherford Honor Nation’s Heroes on Veterans Day

Governor and Lt. Governor Attend Gold Star Families Monument Dedication, Lt. Governor Participates in St. Mary’s County Veterans Parade

ANNAPOLIS, MD – Governor Larry Hogan and Lt. Governor Boyd Rutherford today honored our nation’s heroes on Veterans Day. Lt. Governor Rutherford participated in the annual St. Mary’s County Veterans Day Parade, and later joined Governor Hogan and Gold Star families for a dedication ceremony of the new Gold Star Families Memorial Monument in Annapolis.

“There can’t possibly be words adequate enough to express our gratitude, our respect, and our appreciation to our men and women in uniform,” Governor Hogan said. “In spite of all the things that have sought to divide us in this country, and that still divide us today, we are brought together by the tremendous respect we hold and the incredible debt that we owe to all those who have worn the flag of our nation on their arm and who are willing to lay down their lives to protect the rights and freedoms that we hold so dear.”

“Today and every day, we honor the men and women who have bravely served our country, who run toward danger while others run away,” said Lt. Governor Rutherford. “Our veterans deserve our utmost respect and gratitude.”

Governor Hogan and Lt. Governor Rutherford were joined at the Gold Star Families Memorial Monument dedication by Medal of Honor recipient Hershel “Woody” Williams, as well as Maryland Secretary of Veterans Affairs George Owings and Gold Star Mothers Maryland Chapter President Janice Chance. The memorial pays tribute to the families who have lost a loved one in the military and reminds us of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. The monument was made possible through the Hershel “Woody” Williams Medal of Honor Foundation, a not-for-profit organization that encourages establishing permanent Gold Star Family Memorial Monuments in communities around the country.
