The Daily Record named Gwen Tolbart, professional speaker and WTTG Fox5 weather anchor/reporter one of the top 100 women in Maryland. Three hundred and seventy women were nominated for the statewide honor.

“Through Maryland’s Top 100 Women, The Daily Record recognizes 100 amazing leaders for stellar achievements in their careers, for their exemplary citizenship and for encouraging and shaping the lives of a younger generation through mentoring,” said Suzanne Fischer-Huettner, publisher of The Daily Record.

Tolbart said she was humbled and honored to receive such a prestigious award and to be in the company of so many amazing, accomplished women.

“I appreciate having this opportunity to encourage others to work towards their dreams and goals in life and to emphasize the importance of giving back to their communities and helping to guide and lift up the lives of others,” said Tolbart.

A trailblazer and communications pro, Gwen is an Emmy Award winning, five-time Emmy nominated television broadcaster. Her television work has also earned her Associated Press Awards and five National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) Broadcast Awards.

Her broadcast career began in her hometown of Montreal, Quebec, Canada as host/co-producer of a cable TV news magazine show. She was the first African Canadian to work as a weather/news anchor on the nationally aired English “Weather Network” and, the first African Canadian to work as a weather anchor and host of an internationally syndicated travel show, “Travel Travel” at CTV’s CFCF-12.

Since 2002 she has been a weather anchor/reporter at WTTG (Fox5 Local News) in Washington, DC where she can be seen on-air weekly.

The Daily Record will honor Gwen and the other 99 honorees at a cocktail reception, 5 p.m., May 5 at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, 1212 Cathedral Street in Baltimore.
