“HANDS ACROSS BMORE”

BALTIMORE CITIZENS AND COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS UNITE
TO ENCOURAGE PEACE AND ASSIST IN STOPPING THE VIOLENCE

WHAT:
The organizations Hug Don’t Shoot and Baltimore Cease Fire will coordinate HANDS ACROSS BMORE. The purpose of the event is to unite Baltimore citizens, community organizations and politicians to increase the awareness and need for peace and assist in stopping the violence in the city. Founder of Hug Don’t Shoot, Val Jenkins, says “This is about us. This is about the love for our city.” The focus of the event is to empower, inspire, uplift and instill POWER and PEACE among the neighborhoods. The objective is to show the world that Baltimore can collaborate in a PEACEFUL manner.

The Block Captains and Volunteers for HANDS ACROSS BMORE will follow a unified agenda to meet and greet community members to share love and peace. Resources and entertainment will also be provided on each block in as many creative methods as possible, i.e. color schemes, dance groups, music and bands, sororities, fraternities, and more. Clergy members will be assigned on every block to give spiritual enlightenment and to coordinate a prayer chain as participants join hands on North Avenue from Hilton to Milton.

WHEN:
Saturday, August 3, 2019 from 6:00PM to 7:00PM.

WHERE:
Spanning over 60 blocks on North Avenue from Hilton Street (West Baltimore) to Milton Street (East Baltimore).

BACKGROUND:
Hug Don’t Shoot is a is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, founded by Val Jenkins, which focuses on providing a sense of peace throughout the communities one HUG at a time. The organization has coordinated and supported over 530 events during the past two years. Hug Don’t Shoot reminds the world of humility, compassion, and empathy and emphasizes that a HUG, smile, and conversation can help to change someone’s course in life, in the midst of hatred, prejudice and anger going on in the world. Baltimore Cease Fire 365 is a non-profit organization founded by Ericca Bridgeford, whose mission is for everyone in the city to commit to zero murders by designating ceasefire weekends (Friday, Saturday and Sunday). In doing the outreach for
ceasefire weekends, residents help each other get the resources they need, have conversations with each other about how to handle conflict differently and make commitments to one another to be non-violent in thoughts, words, and deeds, for at
