Happy 4th of July

Hello, hello my dear friends. I don’t know about you, but this is my kind of weather. I know it is a little hot and sticky, but just find a pool and jump or an air conditioned space to cool off. I’ll take this weather any day before I’ll take snow and ice.

There are just so many things to do outdoors including your backyard. Just pull out the grill, if you haven’t already and invite your family and friends over; put the music on and party!

Charles “Rudy” Faison is having his “Annual DipNic Festival” on July 9, 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. at the Elks Camp Barrett, located 1001 Chesterfield Road in Crownsville, Md.

My lands of mercy! Honey child! Talking about fun, this event is awesome! You take your own folding tables and chairs, food, grills, tents, swimsuits, coolers, B.Y.O.B, picnic umbrellas, deck of cards, canopy, etc. The organization provides a gigantic swimming pool, ice, 100 picnic tables, barbecue pit, food on sale, charcoal, two pavilions, DJ, and live entertainment provided by the Spindles Show & Dance Band and the Rollex Band featuring Baretta. This is an adult-only event. So that means, get a baby sitter, because children are not allowed. For tickets, call 443-801-1100.

There is another event is coming up that I want you to put on your calendar and that is my Rosa Pryor Music Scholarship Fund, Oldies Crab Feast on July 16, 2-6 p.m. at Sisters Academy of Baltimore Hall, 144 Second Ave. (off Hammonds Ferry Road). DJ “Sugar Chris” will musically entertain you. Joyce J. Scott, the world-renowned bead sculptor and jewelry designer and local singer. has been profiled in a PBS documentary series called “Craft in America.” She’s one of four well-known artists featured in the PBS episode. You can see it on MPT on July 3. You can also go on July 10 to see it free on a big screen and meet Ms. Joyce Scott at the Buyers Market of American Craft, a craft show at the Baltimore Convention Center, 11:30 a.m. The craft show opens after the screening, 1-5 p.m. This is also free. The Devine Social Destiny presents the launching of their “Gospel Extravaganza Luncheon” in conjunction with “Habitat for Humanity” to help raise funds to rebuild communities in New Orleans this week-end. The trip to New Orleans runs from June 30-July 5. This is a non-profit Christian networking event. This is their first annual Gospel Extravaganza Luncheon. Headlining this gospel concert is the soulful sounds of Keith Wonderboy Johnson, Larry Goodman & The Devine Shepherds, Kenny Davis & The Melodyaires and Senora Hemphill, formerly with the Afro-American Newspapers, will be the special guest speaker.
