The AFRO is saddened to learn of the death of Hilda E. Kelson, who was born on June 27, 1923.

The AFRO sends condolences to the friends, family and all those who knew and loved Hilda E. Kelson. The Morgan State alumna was 102 years old at the time of her death. Shown here, Kelson, at 101 years old.

The 102-year-old was born in Frederick, Md. She was mother to Athelston J. Kelson, her first born,  Lolita A. Kelson and her youngest, Darryl E. Kelson, according to information released by the family. 

“She graduated from Morgan State College in 1947 with a degree in music. While there, she met and married the late Thomas E. Kelson, Jr. and the union lasted 72 years before his transition on Nov. 9 2020,” said daughter, Lolita, in a statement sent to the AFRO. “She retired from The Astoria Community New York Senior Center in 1992 and returned to Baltimore to be closer to her family. She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc – initiated at Queens Alumnae Chapter in New York in 1981.”

Kelson will be sorely missed by countless friends, family, sorority sisters and members of the Baltimore community.
