2 God B the Glory

To God Be the Glory Ministry is a women and children’s transitional housing Ministry with two locations where people can expect to get an array of supportive services including: counseling, housing, middle house computers, GED training, case management, life skills mentors, and domestic violence groups.

“To God Be the Glory Ministry means a lot to me because I was once homeless. To be able to start over as a self-sufficient homeowner in the community is a blessing. To be a product of a program that works is an even greater blessing,” said 50-year-old Rowena Simmons, a Baltimore City resident.

Simmons is just one of the missionaries working with the program to save lives and empower many homeless women and children in the Baltimore metropolitan area.  From 2003-2005 Simmons, her husband and four children became homeless as a result of what she describes as an ongoing battle with drug addiction, low self-esteem, unemployment and incarceration.

“One day I woke up and I just felt the brighter path. The Marian House, which I like to refer to as the grandma of these programs, really helped me make the necessary shift in my life. They really paved the way for me and my family making it possible for us to go from dependent to independent,” Simmons said.

Today Simmons and her family are active members in the community. Together they assist others who may be in the same position as they were five years ago. Along with being a member of To God Be The Glory Ministry, the Simmons family is associated with The Ryan White planning counsel, various mentoring programs and are active with groups that help to get policies changed to protect the community from police brutality in Baltimore City.

“God never gave you the spirit of fear; He teaches peace and love, think what would God do? He wouldn’t be afraid of getting help. He would come, so come and come as you are, we and God will accept you,” Simmons said.
