After falling short to the Morgan State Bears 14-9 last week at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium, the Howard Bison redeemed themselves with a 34-14 road victory over Savannah State at Ted Wright Stadium in Savannah, Ga. on Oct. 1.

Freshman quarterback Greg McGhee put in another strong performance with 152 passing yards and three touchdown strikes. The win ended a 29-game Mid-Eastern Atlantic Conference (MEAC) losing streak for the bewildered Bison, marking their first win in conference play since 2007.

McGhee recorded all of his touchdown passes in the second quarter as Howard took a 20-7 lead going into halftime. The freshman later added a 57-yard run to his total in the third quarter before sophomore running back Andra Williams took his first carry of the afternoon 67 yards in the fourth quarter to give the Bison their largest lead of the game at 34-7 late in the period. The pair of underclassmen helped Howard produce its largest rushing total of the season with 224 yards.

The Bison improved to 2-3 on the season, 1-2 in MEAC play. The young Bison will travel to the Sunshine State next weekend to take on the 3-2 Florida A&M Rattlers.
