It took a while but the Howard Bison saved all their fireworks for the end. After falling behind 21-0, the Bison scored 29 fourth quarter points to edge the Florida A&M Rattlers 29-28 at Bragg Memorial Stadium in Tallahassee, Fl on Oct. 8. Freshman quarterback Greg McGhee tossed three interceptions but a strong final quarter helped him finish with 233 passing yards and two touchdowns to go along with 34 rushing yards.

McGheeโ€™s pass to senior wide receiver Willie Carter went for 54 yards and cut the Bisonโ€™s deficit to 21-13. The Rattlers responded with a short touchdown to push their lead to 28-13 but Howard wouldnโ€™t quit. Junior linebacker Keith Pugh later recovered a fumble before Howard would mount an eight-play, 71-yard drive, capped by a 10-yard scoring strike from McGhee to senior wideout Brandon Drayton which cut the score to 28-19. Howard again sliced the lead, this time using a short run by sophomore Andra Williams to tighten it to 28-26.

The ensuing onsides kick was recovered by the Rattlers but junior running back Eddie Rocker fumbled as Florida A&M was attempting to run the clock out. Howard recovered at the Rattlersโ€™ 15-yard line with less than 20 seconds left in the game. Thereafter, sophomore kicker Parker Munoz netted a 21-yard field goal to give the Bison the deciding edge.

โ€œThis team is growing up,โ€ Bison coach Gary Harrell told howard-bison.com. โ€œTo be down like that and come back and win shows the character of this team. The players responded with a courageous effort.โ€

Howard (3-3, 2-2 MEAC) will return to Greene Stadium for the first time in nearly a month when they host Georgetown University.
