The Howard Lady Bison women’s basketball team remains undefeated in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference after handling the Delaware State Lady Hornets, 59-49, on Dec. 5 at Burr Gymnasium in Washington, D.C. Howard now improves to 3-5 overall, 2-0 in the MEAC.

The Lady Bison were led by juniors Saadia Doyle and Tamoria Holmes, who tied for a team-high 16 points each. Doyle came close to a double-double by grabbing eight rebounds, while Holmes recorded a team-high seven assists. Senior guard Zykia Brown added 10 points with five rebounds, while teammate Cheyenne Curley-Payne chipped in with seven points.

This was one of Howard’s most impressive wins of the season as they leaped out to eight point lead by halftime. The Lady Bison never looked back from that point, maintaining their comfortable lead throughout the second half for the valuable conference victory.

Howard was efficient on the scoring end of the floor, shooting 41 percent from the field. But they played even better in defense, forcing 22 DSU turnovers. Lady Hornets’ Tierra Hawkin led the game with 17 points, along with seven rebounds. But her team simply didn’t get enough shots to match Howard due to the large amount of turnovers committed. Delaware State now drops to 2-6 overall, 0-2 in the MEAC.

Howard will see its next action on Dec. 11 when they face non-conference opponent Navy at Burr Gymnasium.
