The Bowie State Lady Bulldogs bowling team hosted a Central Interscholastic Athletic Association Northern Division event at the AMF Laurel Lanes on March 17-18 in Laurel, Md. BSU finished third overall with a total pin count of 11,274. Elizabeth City State claimed the top spot (12,299) followed by Virginia State (11,417) in second and Bowie State. Chowan placed 4th (10,454), Virginia Union was 5th (10,604) and Lincoln finished 6th (9,542).

The first two days of competition were team matches, followed by baker’s competition of the third and final day. Bowie State had an overall event record of 8-7.
The Lady Bulldogs recorded a 4-6 record over the first two days and went 4-1 on March 18 in Baker System scoring.

Freshman Ambrianna Bankston led the Lady Bulldogs, averaging 184.00. Bankston rolled a BSU high-game of 232 and tallied 1,840 total pins. Elizabeth City State’s Shanice Watkins was the weekends top bowler with a 195.89 average.

BSU freshman Shayla Lightfoot ranked second in team average (175.00) and junior Quinn Armstrong ranked third with a 172.50 average. Sophomore Ashanti Moore knocked down 1,663 total pins (166.30 average) and fellow sophomore Demetria Venable rounded out Bowie State’s bowlers with a 110.50 average.

The CIAA bowling season comes to a close on March 24-26 at the CIAA Women’s Bowling Championships held in Durham, N.C. at the AMF Durham Lanes. The top four teams from each division qualify for competition.
