Coppin State Lady Eagles’ women’s basketball team nearly ended a multiple game losing streak, but fell shy losing 56-50 to Syracuse on Dec. 10 in the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, N.Y.

Syracuse (7-3 overall) led 33-17 not long after halftime, but Coppin State wouldn’t give up. Lady Eagles’ senior power forward Cyrstal Whittington scored back-to-back shots to ignite a 9-0 run for CSU, cutting Syracuse’ lead to just six points with 13 minutes left and the score would stay tight the rest of the game. Unfortunately for CSU, the Lady Orangemen wouldn’t let the Lady Eagles any closer.

CSU senior center Jeanine Manley led her team with 15 points and eight rebounds, while Whittington and sophomore forward Larrisa Carter each scored eight points.
Shakeya Leary scored 14 points to lead Syracuse, while Iaisa Hemingway added 13 points.

Coppin State is now on a four-game losing streak, following losses to local favorites Towson University, Howard University and Georgetown University.
The Lady Eagles will see more action on Dec. 18 when they face Virginia Commonwealth University.
