The Morgan State Bears came close to posting their second win of the season, but fell just short as the LaSalle Explorers held them off, 79-74, in the second game of the Cancun Basketball Challenge in Philadelphia on Nov. 20.

LaSalle started the game in dominant fashion, leading 39-22 at halftime. But Morgan State (1-2 overall) bounced back in the second half with a 22-5 run, briefly leading 52-49 at one point late in the game. Still, LaSalle responded, retaking the lead for good with a 14-point run.

Morgan star Kevin Thompson scored 25 points with 10 rebounds, recording his third double-double in as many games this year. He also blocked three shots, while teammate Justin Black added 20 points off the bench. But it wasn’t enough to match LaSalle (3-1 overall), thanks largely to the efforts of Aaric Murray, who nearly finished with a triple-double of his own, posting 20 points, 11 rebounds and a school-best nine rebounds.

Next Up:
Morgan State will play their third game of the Cancun Challenge on Nov. 23 when they face a tough Western Illinois squad. LaSalle will face Providence in their next tournament game.
