Prince George’s County Councilwoman Leslie Johnson, D-Dist. 6, will have her day in court May 4 on witness and evidence tampering charges.

Johnson was arrested Nov. 12 along with her husband, former Prince George’s County Executive Jack Johnson, after FBI heard a wiretapped conversation between the two.

In that conversation, Leslie Johnson told her husband that FBI agents were at the door.

Jack Johnson instructed his wife to go and find a $100,000 check that he’d allegedly received from an undisclosed developer. When Leslie Johnson found the check, her husband instructed her to rip it up.

Leslie then asked her husband what he wanted to do with $79,600 the couple had in cash inside of the house and Jack instructed her to stuff it in her bra.

“Yeah, stuff it in your panties,” Jack allegedly told his wife. “Yeah, tell them you were in the bathroom, right. I’ll be home in a minute too. Okay. Then just open the door and sit down, Okay?”

When FBI and IRS agents entered the Johnson home, they found the cash on Leslie Johnson.

Federal authorities are seeking forfeiture of all proceeds of the alleged conspiracy including $79,600 in cash. Leslie Johnson could face up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
