Louisiana law enforcement officials are investigating the shooting death June 20 of rap music performer Lil Snupe in Winnfield, La., police said.
Lil Snupe, born Addarren Ross, 18, was found with two gunshot wounds to the torso when police responded to reports of a shooting in an apartment complex just after 4 a.m., according to Winn Parish investigators.
The rapper had recently signed a recording contract with the Dream Label, a rap music production company founded by rapper Meek Mill, a rapper based in Philadelphia, Pa.
Meek Mill signed Ross to Dream Chasers last year after listening to his mixtape for 20 minutes. “He was spittin’ so much pain, he’s from the south with a flow like an east coast guy,” Meek told MTV.
The shooting triggered a flurry of social media activity. Many of the comments address Ross’ troubled life. Meek Mill said he tried to steer the young rapper away from street violence.
“I tried everything in my power to get that kid out of the streets,” Mill tweeted June 20. Ross recounted his contract signing in an interview with MTV.
In February of 2012, Ross spotted Mill in Louisiana. “He was in a van, they was finna pull off. And I went and knocked on the van, on the window. They let the window down, grabbed the mixtape and it was like 10 minutes later, 20 minutes later they called me,” he said.
