Talkers Magazine has included radio host Larry Young on its prestigious list of the most important talk show hosts in the country. This is Young’s fourth appearance on the list.

Young was named number 63 in the magazine’s “Heavy Hundred” listing, for his award-winning “Larry Young Morning Show” on WOLB 1010 AM.  The list features rankings of 100 entertainment, news and public affairs hosts around the U.S.

“We are all very proud of Larry’s accomplishments,” Howard Mazer, general manger of Radio One, said in a press release. “It is exciting to have an industry leader like Talkers Magazine recognize the contributions Larry is making to the people of this community.”

The magazine described Young as having “a big presence in the major African-American market of Baltimore,” and called his program the “morning show of record for the urban community.”

Joe Madison, XM Satellite Radio host, who also made the list, spoke on Young’s accomplishments.

“ well deserved. That’s as profound as I can say it,” Joe Madison told the AFRO.  “To be on a list of the top 100 and there are over 2,300 talk show personalities in the country…is quite a distinction.”

Young said he is humbled by the honor. “Of the top 100, there are only six of us African Americans, led by Joe Madison. It’s quite an honor,” Young told the AFRO of his achievement

Young also added that if one’s interest is finding Black community news over traditional music stations, his show is the best option. “If you’re among those who say ‘I want to know what’s going on in the city’ and ‘I want to know what the national issues are,’ If that’s what you want, out of the 46 stations we have, I’m your best bet.”
