Former NBA Star Earvin “Magic” Johnson may be able to lend a helping hand to those seeking employment.
According to Blackamericaweb.com, Johnson is actively promoting his Magic Workforce Solutions, a company that aims to put urban America back to work. The two-year-old firm has recruited top Fortune 500 companies to assist in the effort.
“Magic Workforce Solutions is a division of Magic Johnson Enterprises, a human resources solutions provider to Fortune 50 companies nationwide,” Greye Kennedy, national director of recruitment for Magic Workforce Services told BlackAmericaweb.com. “We’re growing very, very fast. We have a presence in all 50 states, and we provide services in temp-to-hire help, temporary and direct hire or permanent opportunities.”
The company hosted a job fair in Dallas, Texas on April 1 for a cell phone distribution center and national logistics company that looks to fill 600 warehouse positions.
While entry-level positions were the focus of the job fair for that company, other companies in the area are looking for applicants, including a large financial services company seeking loan processors, financial analysts and compliance analysts.
According to Kennedy, Johnson has become more passionate about his new venture due to his success in urban marketplaces with his Magic Johnson Theaters, and an agreement with Starbucks to bring the coffee shops to inner city locations.
“This is his vision,” Kennedy told BlackAmericaweb.com. “I definitely know that he is very, very much involved in this effort. He is the one that spearheaded the dream to actually becoming a reality, and we are helping him live the dream of putting urban America back to work and employing the underemployed. We happen to be the number-one brand in urban America. Yes, he is involved. And we are 100 percent committed.”
