The FBI said its agents June 22 arrested a former Baylor University basketball player and charged him with an extortion attempt aimed at Washington Redskins rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III.
According to {KWTX} in Waco, Texas, former Baylor University basketball player Khamir Hurd, 25, was arrested by FBI agents on June 22 and is being held at McLennan County Jail for allegedly trying to extort Griffin III, who won the Heisman Trophy as the quarterback for Baylor University this past college football season. Hurd played for Baylorโs basketball team from 2004-07.
โHurd communicated that he had derogatory information on a client of โB.D.โ (Ben Dogra, Griffinโs agent), and that he intended to release that information to the media to damage or injure the reputation ofโ B.D.โsโ client unless the client paid Hurd a substantial sum of money,โ as stated in a court affidavit, according to {Wacotrib.com}.
Wacotrib.com reports that court records state that a representative from Dograโs agency teamed up with an undercover FBI agent to meet with Hurd at a business in Waco, Texas on June 22. There, Hurd โsigned a non-disclosure agreement, turned over his derogatory information and was given a check representing the lump-sum payment.โ
Hurd was then arrested after the meeting, {Wacotrib.com} said.
