Prince George’s County Executive Rushern L. Baker and Gov. Martin O’Malley joined a host of other local officials, Aug. 1, to hold the groundbreaking of the Inter-County Broadband Network in Prince George’s County.

The ceremony, held at Samuel P. Massie Elementary School in Forestville, Md., marked the construction of the 103 fiber miles connecting the new sites in Prince George’s to other ICBN jurisdictions. The 119 new sites include schools, libraries, community centers and more.

The new technology is a result of $115 million in federal funding for Maryland and will enable the construction of the “One Maryland Broadband Network” that will reach every county in the state.
