Zakiya Chikwendu, shown with Coach Don Clark of Clark’s Gymnastics, participated in the Maryland USAG Level 8 State Meet in the Junior D Division on March 19.
She placed 4th on vault, 2nd on uneven parallel bars, 3rd on balance beam and 4th all-around. She qualified to compete at the regional level and earned a spot on the 6-man Maryland State Team. She will compete for the state of Maryland, in her division, at the USAG Region VII Meet in April. Zakiya is the daughter of AFRO Executive Editor Talibah Chikwendu.
