Maude Virginia Vines was born on December 13, 1916 to the late Curlie Spell Vines and Wheeler Vines in Greenville, N.C. She was the oldest child of three siblings. She was educated in Greenville Industrial School and later attended C.M. Epps High School, Greenville, N.C.

She was nurtured in a Christian home and worshipped with her family at Mt. Calvary Freewill Baptist Church. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior, was baptized and united with the disciples of Mt. Calvary FWB Church. She was faithful and loyal in various ministries of the church. She was faithful and loyal in various ministries of the church. She served on the Usher’s Ministry, Willing Workers and as a member of the Senior Choir.

After moving to Baltimore, Md., she joined New Shiloh Baptist Church in October of 2009.

For many years, she was employed as a caregiver for Mrs. Elizabeth Wilson in Greenville. She worked in the tobacco factory and also worked for many years as a domestic engineer.

She leaves to cherish her memory: four daughters, Mary E. Burnett of Baltimore, MD., Helen Joyce Murphy, Vernice Gadson and Sheila Murphy, all of New York City; one son, Willie Murphy (deceased); a loving sister, Thelma E. Bell; nine grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren; a special nephew, Melvin Vines (Jacqueline); her loving godchildren, which were many; a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
