Five Baltimore City high school seniors are recipients of full-tuition scholarships to attend McDaniel College as part of the incoming Class of 2030.ย 

Representatives from McDaniel College, includingย the Green Terror,ย leaders from Baltimore City Public Schools and theย CollegeBound Foundationย traveled Mar. 24 to deliver surprise scholarship announcements to four of the students at Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, Benjamin Franklin High School at Masonville Cove and Green Street Academy.ย 

A fifth student from REACH! Partnership School was surprised on Mar. 18.

The full-tuition scholarships cover all four years at McDaniel and are each valued at approximately $200,000.

Since 2008, McDaniel College has partnered with the CollegeBound Foundation to provide full-tuition scholarships to Baltimore City high school students. McDanielโ€™s Admissions Office annually interviews students from CollegeBound Foundation-staffed Baltimore City public high schools for the scholarship.

Izabela Gonzalez, McDaniel Collegeโ€™s mascot, the Green Terror, and Alannah Oโ€™Mara-York enjoy the surprise of their college scholarship announcement.

Izabela Gonzalez of Baltimore Polytechnic Institute has excelled academically as part of Polyโ€™s Honors STEM program. She is deeply involved in her church and volunteer work. She also has a passion for photography. Known for always being willing to help others, she is a caretaker for her two younger siblings. Gonzalez plans to pursue a major inย biologyย and a minor inย American Sign Language (ASL)ย in preparation for a career in medicine.

Alannah Oโ€™Mara-York of Baltimore Polytechnic Institute is a member of Polyโ€™s Project Lead the Way Engineering program, where she is a quiet leader in the classroom. Throughout high school, she has worked in the food service industry and as a babysitter. When not at school or work, she helps take care of her younger sibling. Oโ€™Mara-York is interested in exploring a career path in the fields ofย psychologyย andย health sciences.ย 

Tania Worsley of Benjamin Franklin High School at Masonville Cove is a three-sport athlete and serves as a co-captain. During her junior year, she was named โ€œFemale Athlete of the Yearโ€ at her school. She participates in Building STEPS (Science, Technology and Education Partnerships) and is active in the Student Government Association. Her goal is to major inย biologyย and become a veterinarian.

Dale McLaughlin of Green Street Academy is the class valedictorian and active in clubs like Dungeons and Dragons. Dale is also an author of thriller fiction. Outside of school, McLaughlin works part-time as an assistant baker and is passionate about spotlighting the issue of food deserts in Baltimore City. Dale intends to major inย accountingย and minor in American Sign Language (ASL) with plans to pursue an MBA. ย 

Harmony Gross of REACH! Partnership Schoolย is a leader at Reach!, serving as captain of the schoolโ€™s volleyball team and as class president during both her junior and senior years. As a sophomore, she was selected to attend theย National Student Leadership Summit (NSLS) hosted by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS). She also serves on the student athlete leadership council through Project Rampart, an initiative by Under Armour. After completing multiple Bloomberg Arts internships, she started her own tattoo business. Gross wants to major inย kinesiologyย and become a physical therapist.
