Comptroller Franchot to Present Three Awards on the Eastern Shore

WHAT: Comptroller Franchot will present the 2016 Silver Hammer Award for Talbot County to Chapel District Elementary School in Cordova on Friday morning. The school was nominated for providing a safe and well-maintained building through excellent ongoing maintenance. The school was renovated in 1994, and Aging School Funds were used to upgrade automatic temperature controls and improve building security.
The Comptroller will then travel to Dorchester County to present the 2016 Silver Hammer Award to Cambridge-South Dorchester High School. The school was nominated for providing a safe and well-maintained building through excellent ongoing maintenance. The Silver Hammer Award was established in 2010 in recognition of schools that demonstrate sound fiscal management and commitment to well-maintained buildings. Comptroller Franchot visits schools throughout the state as part of his role as a member of the Board of Public Works, which approves public school construction funding.
Comptroller Franchot will then present the 2016 William Donald Schaefer Helping People Award to Santo Grande, president and CEO at Delmarva Community Services (DCS). DCS provides support and a variety of services to individuals with developmental and physical disabilities. Also serves senior citizens and medically frail persons.
