Comptroller Franchot to Speak at 10th Annual Md. Fire-Rescue Memorial Service in Annapolis

WHAT:          Comptroller Franchot will offer words of remembrance and recognition to family and friends gathered to remember and to honor the state’s fallen firefighters and rescue personnel Sunday afternoon at the 10th annual Maryland Fire-Rescue Services Memorial Service at the Maryland Fire-Rescue Memorial Park in Annapolis. Matthew Tobia, assistant chief of the Loudoun County Department of Fire and Rescue and Emergency Management, will be the keynote speaker.

The Maryland Fire-Rescue Services Memorial Foundation also will add the names of five fallen heroes to its Wall of Honor. They are:

  • Lt. James Bethea, Safety Officer, Baltimore City Fire Department.
  • Robert W. Fogle III, Fire Apparatus Driver Operator, Baltimore County Fire Department.
  • Kevin Jenkins, Frederick County Fire and Rescue.
  • Erik Steciak, Paramedic, Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company.
  • Mitchel D. Dobbins, Western Enterprise Fire Company, Co. 4.

To mark the 10th anniversary, memorial foundation members will read the names of every member of the state’s fire and rescue family who have died in the line of duty in the last 10 years. The park includes a sculpture and memorial wall listing the names of more than 400 Maryland heroes.
