– First of This Year’s Wm. Donald Schaefer Helping Awards Presented to Easton Man –
WHO: Comptroller Peter Franchot
State and local elected officials
WHAT: Comptroller Franchot will speak to members of the Talbot County Chamber of Commerce Thursday on Maryland’s economy and the recently-ended tax season at the business group’s luncheon meeting in Easton. He then will present his Maryland Masters Awards to three budding Talbot County artists: Alondra Moreno-Santana, a fourth grader at Chapel District Elementary School, for her inspired art based on a study of Kuna Native Americans; Cole Burton, an eighth grader at Easton Middle School, for his acrylic sailboat painting; and Natalie Richardson, a senior at St. Michaels Middle-High School, for an oil pastel of a Mandarin duck.
The Comptroller will conclude his day by presenting the first of 24 2015 William Donald Schaefer Helping People Awards to recipient, Alex Handy, who has served as president of the St. Vincent de Paul Society since 2008. In that time, Mr. Handy helped to transform the organization from 30 people operating from a storage unit to an all-volunteer staff of 300 men and women in a modern 5,000-square-foot facility on Canvasback Drive in Easton. Mr. Handy is well-known in the Talbot County community for his many efforts with non-profit organizations.
