Comptroller to Cut Ribbon at Biotech Firm, Present Proclamations to Gaithersburg PD and Brew Pub

–  Franchot to Recognize Gaithersburg Police Department’s Service to Community  –

WHO:             Comptroller Peter Franchot

State and local elected officials

WHAT:           Comptroller Franchot will present a proclamation this morning to Novavax — one of Maryland’s fastest growing biotech companies – at a ribbon cutting ceremony and tour of its newest facility in Montgomery County. Novavax is a clinical-stage vaccine company that delivers products to prevent a broad range of infectious diseases. Stan Erck, president and chief executive officer, will accept the honor as well as emcee the event.

The Comptroller then will stop by the Gaithersburg Police Department to present a proclamation to Police Chief Mark Sroka, honoring the department’s dedication to protect and serve the community. Chief Sroka and officers from the department will accept the honor.

The Comptroller will visit Growler’s Brew Pub, where he will present a proclamation to General Manager Chuck Blessing and his partner Jon Silverman, for their perseverance and persistence. The pair bought the building in 2011 and restored the structure after it sustained damage from a summer storm. Then in early 2014, a burst pipe caused the pub to close again. The pub was redesigned and reopened later that summer. In 2013, Growlers’ Yorkshire Porter won the Comptroller’s Cup Gold Medal for Best Overall Beer in Maryland.
