Comptroller to Speak at Baltimore College and MACPA Luncheon; Shop MD for the Holidays
-Comptroller to encourage Baltimore shoppers to spend their holiday gift dollars locally-

WHAT: As part of his ongoing efforts emphasizing financial literacy, Comptroller Franchot will speak to a group of students at Baltimore City Community College about the importance of becoming financially literate to reach short- and long-term goals for a more stable financial future. The students are enrolled in the college’s continuing education program and are striving to learn how to better manage their finances.
Afterward, as part of his Shop Maryland for the Holidays tour, the Comptroller will visit shops at Harbor East, starting out at Sassanova, a local shoe store owned by Angela Tandy. He then will visit Hand Bags in The City, owned by George Sakelleris, and Ammarylis, a boutique offering designer jewelry and accessories owned by Anna Mare Fiume.
The Comptroller then will join the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants at their annual luncheon where he will speak about Maryland’s business and economic climate, the need for greater financial literacy for high school students and to talk about his legislative initiatives. Continuing his Shop Marylandtour, the Comptroller will visit Shoe City at the Mondawmin Mall to present a proclamation to founder Isreal Freedman, President Greg Greenberg and CFO Mike Fortwengler,recognizing the company’s commitment to offering the highest quality in fashion and for the retailers’ efforts to serve the community.
