MEDIA ADVISORY
Cardin to Meet with Chief Judge Merrick Garland, Nominee for Supreme Court Justice
Senator, Marylander Garland to discuss importance of inclusive democracy
Monday, March 28 at 11:30 AM, U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.) will meet with Supreme Court nominee Merrick Garland, Chief Judge of the D.C. Circuit Court. An opportunity for photos will precede the meeting, and Senator Cardin will host a brief media availability outside 509 Hart Senate Office Building immediately afterward.
“The president moved forward in a deliberate manner and named a worthy nominee to serve on the highest court in the land. It is now necessary for the Senate to fulfill its constitutional responsibility to consider the nomination through a fair hearing and a thoughtful floor debate before a timely vote of the full Senate,” said Senator Cardin. “I was on hand at the White House to witness the nomination of Chief Judge Merrick Garland, a Marylander, to become the next Supreme Court Justice. He is an eminently qualified pick. I look forward to Chief Judge Garland’s confirmation hearings so that I, and the American public, can learn even more about him. I hope Senate Republicans will not continue to deny Judge Garland and the American people that basic courtesy.”
