Baltimore and Beyond: Discriminatory Profiling and Law Enforcement Reform
 
Senator Cardin, Maryland Attorney General Frosh to Host Congressional Briefing
 
 
TODAY, November 4 at 12:30 PM, U.S. Senator Ben Cardin and Maryland Attorney General Brian Frosh (both D-Md.), will host a congressional briefing focusing on the use of discriminatory profiling by law enforcement as well as other ways to restore trust between communities and law enforcement. As the criminal trials begin in Baltimore for the case of Freddie Gray, systematic police reform is necessary not only in Baltimore, but nationwide.  Senator Cardin has introduced the End Racial Profiling Act, the BALTIMORE Act, and Law Enforcement Trust and Integrity Act.  Attorney General Frosh has promulgated guidance prohibiting discriminatory profiling by law enforcement in Maryland.  A panel of experts from the civil and human rights community, law enforcement, and academia will review the recent federal and state guidance on this issue and explore ways to end discriminatory profiling by law enforcement and make additional reforms to strengthen and improve relations between police departments and the communities they serve.
