Cardin to Host Discussion on Local Refugee Relief Efforts, Needs
Friday, September 25 at 10:30 AM, U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.) will join Maryland refugee service organizations and faith leaders as they share ideas and needs in response to the Syrian refugee crisis and migration issues related to Mexico and Central America.
“The world is facing a global refugee crisis whose magnitude has not been seen in more than a half-century, and the international community is obligated to alleviate the current situation. As a nation of immigrants, the United States must remain as committed to aiding the unprecedented number of people fleeing conflict zones as we do to helping restore stability to those regions,” said Senator Cardin. “Confronting the current refugee and migration crises will require a blend of compassion, ingenuity and leadership. The relief organizations and faith leaders coming together this week to discuss the world-wide refugee crises have extensive shared histories of finding ways to help people without homes, resources or even countries. We need dedication like theirs on a grand scale if we are to confront these crises, and I look forward to learning from their collective experience.”
