How did you hear your call to ministry?

I have been in ministry my entire life, beginning as a musician at my home church, Morning Star Baptist Church, in Catonsville, when I was very young. My personal relationship with the Lord deepened; however, after entering the Discipleship Ministry as a young adult. It was during this season that I prayerfully accepted my call to preach in 1998, was licensed in 1999, started seminary, and began to work in full-time ministry at my home church.

What was the biggest surprise when you started ministry?

My biggest surprise was actually that God was using me. I was not born into a family of preachers like many of my colleagues, so I never imagined I would be doing what I am doing now.

What aspect are you most proud of?

The tremendous work that God is doing through the people of the New Bethlehem Baptist Church. It has been a great joy to see the church grow, both, internally, and in influence, within the community. Besides building a strong internal ministry program, NBBC is out on the streets once a month doing ministry. We also have annual community days, and quarterly community chats where we provide meals, seminars, and facilitate whatever resources the people need.

I am also excited about the vision of LMW Enterprises, through which I mentor young females in ministry, published my first book, Creative Worship in a Contemporary Milieu, and launched a weekly radio segment, “The Maximized Moment w/Dr. Lisa M. Weah,” which airs on WEAA 88.9 FM’s Gospel Grace, each Sunday at 7:20 a.m. More information about this holistic ministry can be found at

What’s the most exciting thing about your ministry?

I am excited about working and collaborating with others to build the Kingdom. I am a member of the West Baltimore Clergy United and I serve on the executive council of the Kingdom Association of Covenant Pastors. Within the Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship International, I serve as Overseer of Administration on the Worship Ministry Executive Board Worship Ministry Executive Board. I’m very excited about all of the partnerships I’ve been blessed to be a part of along this journey.

How does social media enhance your ministry, or not?

Social media allows us to touch the entire world. Both New Bethlehem, and LMW Enterprises use Facebook and Twitter, and I use these social media outlets, personally. Millions of users utilize these sites, daily and faithfully, and I appreciate the platform to spread good news and information.

Who in your community most inspires you?

I am most inspired by my pastor, Bishop Dwayne C. Debnam. He is the example of excellence and integrity, in life and ministry that I want to follow. I not only admire the work he is doing at my home church, Morning Star Baptist Church in Catonsville and Woodlawn, but I admire his personal witness, strength and perseverance.

What’s your favorite form of recreation? Self care?

I make sure that I schedule time for me because if you are not taking care of yourself, you cannot effectively take care of the people of God. So, I understand that it is my responsibility to guard my time, and do the things, recreationally, that I enjoy, which include walking, working out, reading, spending time with my family and traveling.
