The youngest daughter of Anne Shervington Davis and the late Gerald Davis, the 42-year-old Hood died peacefully at home on Sept. 26, after a long battle with leukemia. She was forty-two.

The Hampton graduate went on to earn a master’s in education from Loyola College and become a certified counselor, which started her on a career path that led to eight years as a House of Ruth counselor and many years as a guidance counselor at Lemmel Middle School.

In 2004, she met, Trenton Hood. They married two years later and Melanie moved to Charlottesville. She and Trent had a beautiful and intelligent daughter, Tristyn, who is now four. When Melanie’s illness progressed, the family moved back to Baltimore so that Melanie could receive her medical treatments.
