Junior guard Justin Black scored 17 points as the Morgan State Bears successfully ended a five-game losing streak and cruised past Mid-eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) rival South Carolina State, 76-60, on Jan. 12 at Hill Field House in Baltimore, Md.

The win came in the Bears’ first MEAC game of the season.

The game was tightly contested in the first half, as South Carolina State led early with an 8-2 run. Morgan held just a 38-32 lead at halftime, but they put together a 19-point cushion in the second half with tough defense and hot shooting.

“We just came together today… We like playing in the Hill Field House and representing our home court,” Black said after the game. “We took advantage of all the opportunities on the court tonight and came out with a victory.”

Morgan shot an impressive 57 percent from the field, while locking S.C. State down to only 43 percent shooting.

Five Morgan players scored double digit points, including junior center Ian Chiles with14 points and eight rebounds. Senior forward DeWayne Jackson added 13 points, seven assists and six boards. Sophomore guard Blake Bozeman and sophomore forward Shaquille Duncan each scored 10 points for Morgan.

S.C. State senior guard Khalif Toombs scored 19 points for his team in the loss.

The Bears will face Savannah State in a MEAC matchup at Hill Field House on Jan. 14.
