Morgan State University improved to a 4-1 record in ESPN Bracketbuster games as they topped non-conference opponent High Point University, 75-68, on Feb. 23 at the Millis Center in High Point, N.C.
The win also ended High Point’s seven-game winning streak, while improving Morgan to a 10-14 overall record.
ESPN’s Bracketbuster games are contests set up to face conference-tournament favorites against each other. Morgan State has participated in the Bracketbuster games since 2009 and is one of the favorites to win the Mid-Eastern Conference (MEAC) tournament. They were paired with High Point, who is considered a strong contender in the Big South Conference.
High Point and Morgan played tough against each other, but Morgan was able to take control of the game during the final eight minutes of the second half. Morgan outscored High Point 32-11 during the eight-minute span and scored 46 total points in the half.
Morgan was led by junior guard Justin Black with 20 points. Sophomore guard Blake Bozeman also pitched in a clutch 13 points while dominating the boards with 12 rebounds.
High Point redshirt freshman forward John Brown led the game with 24 points.
Morgan State will face cross-town rival Coppin State on Feb. 27 at Hill Field House in Baltimore.
