Morgan State sophomore Emmanuel Stewart is heading to the NCAA Track & Field championships, following his fourth-place finish in the discus with a throw of 185 feet, 10 inches on May 24 on Day 1 of the NCAA East Preliminary Round at Hodges Stadium on the campus of the University of North Florida.

Stewart advanced to the NCAA championships, which will take place June 6-9 at Drake Stadium on the campus of Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, by setting both a personal-best and new school record with his throw. Stewart also competed in the javelin on Thursday, however he would finish 29th with a throw of 197 feet, 9.inches.

On the women’s side, sophomore Ekundayo Sogbesan had a great day running at the preliminary round in the 400 meter dash, as she placed 17th with a personal-best time of 53.56 seconds to advance to the quarterfinals May 25. Sophomore Teyanna Green ran a time of 11.76 in the 100 meter dash to place 24th and advance to the quarterfinals
Other Morgan State athletes to compete on May 24 were sophomore Britney Wattley, who finished 34th in the 100 meter dash in a time of 11.89. Junior Ranita D Mealer would foul on all three of her attempts in the shot put and later placed 44th in the javelin with a throw of 123-2. Senior Calvin Dascent finished 38th in the 400 meter dash in a time of 47.48 and Trey Charles did not start the 400 meter hurdles event.

Senior Monae Waller competed in the high jump on May 25, while Dascent will ran in the 200 meter dash preliminaries the same date. Both Green and Wattley competed in the women’s 200 meter dash preliminaries.
