The Morgan State (MSU) Bears moved into a tie for first place in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) after spoiling the Delaware State Hornets’ rainy Homecoming with a 12-0 shutout win on Oct. 29 in Dover, Del.

The Bears scored just enough points to win while their stingy defense held the Hornets to just 54 total yards of offense, surrendering only three first downs all game. Delaware State passed for just 52 yards, while barely rushing for two yards on 21 carries.

MSU senior defensive lineman Kevin Myrie led his team with eight tackles while junior linebacker Allen Stephens added seven tackles.

This now marks the first shutout victory for Morgan State since a 32-0 win over North Carolina A&T back in 2006.

The Bears didn’t do much passing on offense; instead, they ran the ball more than 70 times, led by freshman running back Tracey Martin with 38 rushes for 154 yards and two touchdowns. Junior running back Travis Davidson followed with 17 carries for 90 yards.

Morgan State now advances to a 5-2 overall record, 4-1 versus the MEAC. They have three games remaining this season, including a Nov. 5 matchup with No. 3 conference ranked Bethune-Cookman. They take on fellow No. 1 conference ranked Norfolk State on Nov. 12 and finish off with Hampton on Nov. 19.
