James R. Ashby and Terrye Ashby recently presented the James H. Ashby Jr. Award of Excellence to Danny T. Molock Jr. at the recent Morgan State University Senior Awards Banquet.

Molock is the highest ranking male graduating senior receiving a bachelor’s degree in social work from Morgan State University. Danny was born and raised in Denton, Md. located on the Eastern Shore and is a member of Alpha Nu Omega Fraternity, the Golden Key International Honor Society, Phi Alpha Social Work Honor Society and Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society. Next semester, he will begin work on his master’s degree with a concentration in school social work. His career goal is to be an efficient social work practitioner in the urban community with emphasis on reaching the African-American male population.

The award was established in 2010 in memory of James (Jim) Hubert Ashby Jr., a devoted husband, father, brother, son and friend, who was born on June 13, 1953, in Cumberland, Md., and died suddenly Nov. 27, 2009. Jim received his early education in the public and parochial schools of Cumberland, graduating in 1971 from Fort Hill High School where he played football. Upon completing high school, Jim attended Morgan State University where he pledged Groove Phi Groove Social Fellowship, Inc. and graduated in 1980 with a bachelor’s degree in social work. He later returned to Morgan State and earned a master’s degree in sociology in 1989.
