Morgan State University President Challenges Students to Remain ‘Morgan Strong’ and Be the Difference in Face of Racial Injustice and Global Pandemic

Passionate and Impactful Message Delivered During Annual Matriculation Convocation

BALTIMORE — Poised on stage before a mostly empty hall at the Murphy Fine Arts Center, Morgan State University President David Wilson delivered an impassioned message of resilience and perseverance to those attending and watching online. Due to restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic only a very select few students and faculty were allowed to attend in-person to witness President Wilson’s keynote. Morgan’s annual Matriculation Convocation marks the opening of the academic year as well as provides an opportunity to welcome newcomers to Morgan in an effort to acquaint them with some of the university’s most treasured rites, rituals and traditions. The occasion also presented the administration with an opportunity to offer an update on the state of the University.  Wilson’s speech, entitled “Morgan Strong,” touched on a number of topics weighing on the minds of students and African Americans such as COVID-19, virtual connectivity, the election, racism, moral decline, death and civil engagement.
