Sophomore guard Moneshia Davis came off the bench to score 15 points and senior guard Brittany Dodson added 13 points to lead Morgan State to a 63-54 overtime victory over host Florida A&M (FAMU) in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) game on Feb. 5 at the Al Lawson Center in Tallahassee, Fla.
The win was Morgan’s sixth straight over A&M and just the ninth win in the 40 meetings between the two teams.
Morgan State senior forward Theresa Davis came off the bench and fell shy of a double-double with a team-high nine rebounds and 10 points to help Morgan State to a 40-10 advantage over FAMU in bench scoring.
Davis, who in her last trip to Tallahassee torched FAMU for a career-high 18 points as a freshman during the 2008-09 season, scored eight of her points in the overtime session. She also added a crucial block on a three-point attempt by A&M junior forward/center Qiana Donald with 24 seconds left in the game to lead Morgan State to its third consecutive win.
FAMU (10-11 overall, 5-4 MEAC) was led by Donald, who scored 15 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Sophomore guard/forward Antonia Bennett added a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 17 rebounds and junior guard Tameka McKelton totaled 10 points.
Morgan State (13-8 overall, 7-2 MEAC) conclude their road swing through Florida with a visit to Bethune-Cookman in a MEAC contest on Feb. 7 at 5:30 p.m. at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Fla.
