Miami Heat LeBron James’ jersey is once again leading the list of the National Basketball Association’s sales, according to rankings released by the NBA Dec. 19.
According to ESPN, the rankings are based on overall sales so far in the 2013 sales year fourth quarter from adidas AG and NBAStore.com. The sales figures include activity on Black Friday and Cyber Monday holiday sales, both of which were record setting.
Since joining the Heat in the summer of 2010, James has won two NBA regular season MVP awards, been to the NBA Finals all three seasons, won his first two NBA Championships, made the NBA All-Star team three times, won two NBA Finals MVP, and many other titles and awards.
Next on the list is the jersey of Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers, followed by Derrick Rose of the Chicago Bulls, despite both players being injured.
Bryant missed the first 19 games of this NBA season due to an Achilles injury last season and Rose missed the entire NBA season last year and will miss the entire NBA season this year due to a knee injury.
Kevin Durant and Carmelo Anthony came in at Nos. 4 and 5, respectively.
Several NBA players made the list for the first time, the league announced.
Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors made the list for the first time, ranking sixth in jersey sales.
Other first-timers include James Harden of the Houston Rockets (No. 12) and Paul George of the Indiana Pacers (No. 14).
According to ESPN, George joins Jermaine O’Neal (No. 13 in December 2005) and Reggie Miller (No. 8 in December 2002) as the only Pacers to crack the top 15 since 2001, the year the league started tracking jersey sales.
Miami’s Dwyane Wade is No. 7 on the list and is followed by Los Angeles Clipper Chris Paul, Cleveland’s Kyrie Irving, Los Angeles Clipper’s Blake Griffin, Oklahoma City’s Russell Westbrook, Houston’s Harden, Boston’s Rajon Rondo, George and Philadelphia’s Michael Carter-Williams.
Carter-Williams is the only rookie on the 15-player list.
“If people love the way I play the game of basketball, love the way I inspire to be better, that’s great,” James said told ESPN. “Every time I see someone in my jersey, a complete stranger, it’s a wow factor. For me to be the No. 1 guy, to have the most jersey sales, it’s crazy.”
There’s been a double-digit percentage growth in sales from last year, the league said.
James, who also had the most popular jersey worldwide this year, has held the No. 1 position five times on the league’s list of domestic jersey sales.
There will be two new versions of James’ jersey coming soon to the marketplace.
James has a short-sleeved jersey that teams will wear on Christmas day bearing player nicknames on the back.
James will go with “King James” on his jersey for the game.
