The Lady Bears ended their final day of the 2012 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Indoor Track and Field championships on Feb. 18 with a sixth-place finish and a total of 42 points.

The Lady Pirates of Hampton once again took home the title, scoring 161.50 points.

Maryland Eastern Shore took second with 121 points, while North Carolina A&T placed third with 67 points.

Monae Waller performed strong for the Lady Bears, capturing gold in the high jump with a jump of 5-feet-7.75 inches. Her performance in the high jump resulted in a spot on the All-MEAC first team. Waller also finished fifth in the pentathlon with 3,255 points and came in seventh in the 60-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 9.05.

In the track events, the Lady Bears’ 4×400 ‘A’ team placed fourth in a time of 3:49.87. The distance Medley team placed sixth in a time of 12:35.92.

Britney Wattley placed fourth in the 60-meter dash in a time of 7.61. Teyanna Green was not too far behind Wattley, placing seventh in a time of 7.68. Wattley and Green, who both had personal-best times in the 60 meter dash, will join Waller at the ECAC championships next month.

Meanwhile, Morgan State men’s track & field team finished sixth place this year with a total of 44 points at the MEAC championships.

In the field events Emmanuel Stewart set a new MEAC and school record for the weight throw with a toss of 59-feet-1.25-inches. The previous record, 54-feet-9.5-inches, was set by Morgan State alum Tyron Benjamin in 2010. Stewart also made first-team All-MEAC for his weight throw performance.

Stewart also finished fourth in the shot put with a personal-best throw of 51-feet-7.25-inches, while Jefferson Butler took third in the shot put throwing for 51-feet-8.5-inches. Butler’s shot put performance landed him on third team All-MEAC.

Simpson Penn tied fourth in the high jump (6-feet-7-inches), and Lewis Shirima placed fourth in the pole vault (12-feet-.5-inch).

In the track events Calvin Descent finished third in the 400-meter dash in a time of 47.97. In the 200-meter dash Calvin placed eighth in a time of 47.89. Descent also made third-team All-MEAC for his performance in the 400-meter dash.

Emmanuel Robinson finished seventh in the 60 meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 8.19.

Morgan State will be back in action on March 3, where they will be competing in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC)/IC4A Championships. This event will be held in Boston, Mass. at Boston University.
