Last week, Procter & Gamble’s My Black is Beautiful campaign in cooperation with BET Networks and Dunbar High School, offered the students at Dunbar High School an opportunity to engage in a dialogue about Black beauty and self-esteem. Twenty-five pre-selected Dunbar students were asked to create a visual interpretation of what the My Black is Beautiful campaign and Black beauty meant to them. What resulted was an array of collages, created by the students using their favorite elements, which portrayed African Americans in a positive light. The My Black is Beautiful Collage Contest was immediately followed by an (EM) POWER session with the girls hosted by actress/singer Tatiyana Ali with opening remarks by BET Chairman Debra Lee. Winners from the “My Black is Beautiful Collage Contest” received over $500 worth of gifts from Procter & Gamble.
