According to BlackAmericaWeb.com, prosecutors in the war crimes trial against former Liberian leader Charles Taylor will call supermodel Naomi Campbell as a witness to Taylor’s involvement with “blood diamonds.”

The diamonds, which refer to those mined in a war zone and then sold to benefit a warlord, have been at the center of several human rights crusades and was the focus of a 2006 film entitled Blood Diamond.

According to Taylor’s attorney, Campbell’s testimony would be little more than a “publicity stunt.”

Campbell’s 1997 meeting with Taylor at a presidential dinner in South Africa is at the center of the controversy. According to reports, Campbell received uncut diamonds from Taylor’s representatives as a gift.
