It’s not just the casinos in Las Vegas that have an investment in the NBA Finals. Apparently politicians are getting into the wagering as well. The 2011 National Basketball Association Finals battle between the Dallas Mavericks and Miami Heat has sparked a friendly gamble within the Congressional Black Caucus between Reps. Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-Texas) and Frederica Wilson (D-Fla.).

While both Wilson and Johnson were firing off at each other in a war of words before the start of the series; it wasn’t money that was on the table, but rather a banquet of barbecue or a serving of seafood.

Johnson has agreed to provide Wilson with a Texas barbecue dinner if the Mavericks win while Wilson will supply Johnson with a seafood dinner should the Heat take the series.

“Miami will feel the real effects of the ‘Texas Heat’ when Dirk and company do an old fashioned Texas round-up of Miami’s new talents,” said Johnson in a press release. “And with this bet, I look forward to capping off a fantastic season with some classic Miami food and much deserved words of praise from my friend, Congresswoman Wilson. Go Mavs!”

“In the words of LeBron James, I can’t wait for our team to take their talents to Dallas. It may be hot in Texas, but I don’t think the Mavs will be able to handle the ‘Heat’ this time,” said Congresswoman Wilson. “Go Miami!”

The NBA Finals are currently tied 1-1 with the series shifting scenes to Dallas on Sunday, June 5.
