Today, Mayor Brandon M. Scott announced Calvin A. Young III as his new chief of staff. Young will assume the position effective April 9, 2025. Young has served as a Senior Advisor to Mayor Scott since September 2024 and served as his re-election campaign treasurer from 2023 to 2024.
“To continue building on the historic progress we’ve made so far, we’re building the most hardworking and dedicated team this City has ever seen. And there is no one I trust more to lead that team than Calvin,” said Mayor Scott. “I’ve known Calvin since our days running high school track and field against each other. His intelligence has taken him everywhere — from the engineering bench to the corporate boardroom, from Harvard to the White House. But above all else, Calvin has always been a proud son of Baltimore. He will lead this office and this City with excellence, talent, and grit.”

Young has dedicated his career to public service. Raised by a single mother in Northeast Baltimore, Young is a proud graduate of Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, New York University, and Harvard Business School.
Young has worked at Camden Partners, Harbor Bankshares Corporation, and is the co-founder of Green Street Impact Partners, a private equity firm providing growth capital to companies in the education sector. His 15 years of experience in investing and operations management has led to over $100 million in capital investments.
He currently serves on the board of Green Street Academy, a public charter school in Baltimore, the Chesapeake Shakespeare Company, Live Baltimore, and chairs the board of East Baltimore Development, Inc. He also serves on the Business Advisory Committee for the Comptroller of Maryland and co-chaired the Greater Baltimore Committee’s 10 Year Regional Strategy Steering Committee.
Young began his career as an engineer in aircraft health management at Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation in Stratford, Connecticut where he supported management and testing of the integrated vehicle health monitoring units on Blackhawk helicopters and operations manager at Raytheon Technologies. Young served five years on the national executive board of the National Society of Black Engineers—an engineering education and professional organization—serving as its Board Chair from 2012 to 2013.
Young received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from New York University and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School. While at Harvard, Young served as an intern on the White House’s National Economic Council, focusing on manufacturing, small business growth and access to capital.
